As far as my distance travelled over is concerned, I would like to tell you that forty years ago I took up a martial art I did not know. Today, I thank God for illuminating me and for allowing me to choose the right path. For that is Aikido, the beginning and the end of a straight line that leads us to act, think and be human beings of a persevering behaviour.

Fascinated by an elegant art, stable in all its forms, I started my studies back in 1953; under the direction of Professor Geo London, who talked about Aikikai Jujitsu at that time. Later it was transformed into Aikido here in Uruguay by the one who wrote this lines. Along the way I have had the honour of receiving teachings from very well known masters. For example, in South America from Teruo Nakatani Sensei, Natsutoshi Kurata Sensei, Kenzo Miyazawa Sensei, and Reishin Kawai Sensei; in Europe from Kitaura Sensei, and Tamura Sensei; in Japan from Ichihashi Sensei, Yamamoto Sensei and Doshu Kisshomaru Ueshiba Himself. There are also other masters from different parts of the world to whom I am infinitely grateful for their teachings.

This prepare me physically and made me spiritually strong to consolidate once and for all the Aikido in Uruguay and to carry on with Fujiyama Institute, that it turn out later into the Uruguay Aikikai.
Further ahead, I was left in charge of the diffusion and the direction of Aikido in Uruguay; being the first Latin American who obtained this distinctions from Doshu Kisshomaru Ueshiba. I am a founder member of the I.A.F., and it was in the first congress (held in Japan, 1976) that I was nominated as a delegate for Latin America. Since that moment I have attended to the majority of the I.A.F. Congress. In the last one held in 1996 in the city of Kaatsura, Japan, I was nominated third Vice-chairman.

In addition to this, I am the actual president of the Latin American Aikikai Aikido Federation (F.L.A.A. in spanish) 1997. Also I am the president of the Uruguayan Aikido Federation, 1997. In September of the same year I had the great honour of receiving my fifth Dan from Aikikai Foundation, Aikido World Headquarters, Tokyo.

Time flies and now after these long years I thank God again because the path I have chosen is still as new as it was forty years ago through my son Carlos, with new sap, new life and love. Tanks O'sensei Morihei Ueshiba for creating the wonderful Art of Aikido.
